Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about preparing your Hajj and Umrah photos, and how we keep them private.

Is this tool private and secure?

Yes. Your photos are processed directly in your browser on your own device whenever possible. For most users, your photo never leaves your phone or computer. If your device cannot handle the processing, we fall back to a secure server that processes your photo in memory and immediately discards it. Nothing is ever saved to disk, stored in a database, or shared with anyone.

Are my photos stored anywhere?

No. We do not store, log, or retain your photos or personal information. Photos processed in your browser never leave your device at all. Photos processed by our fallback server are handled entirely in memory and discarded the moment your processed photo is returned to you.

Is this tool free?

Yes, completely free. There are no fees, accounts, signups, or watermarks. It was built to help pilgrims prepare their Hajj and Umrah application photos without hassle.

Is this tool affiliated with Nusuk or the Saudi government?

No. This is an independent, free tool built to help pilgrims prepare photos that meet the Nusuk platform's requirements. Always verify the latest requirements on the official Nusuk platform (nusuk.sa) before submitting your application.

What are the official Nusuk photo requirements?

Nusuk requires a recent, passport style photo: plain white background with no shadows or patterns, your face taking up roughly 70 to 80% of the frame, head straight and facing the camera, eyes open, neutral expression with mouth closed, and no glasses covering the eyes. Photos must be JPG or PNG and within Nusuk's dimension and file size limits, and our tool handles the technical sizing automatically. The photo should be no more than six months old and look like you do today.

Why do photos get rejected on Nusuk?

The most common rejection reasons are: blurry or low quality photos, shadows on the face or background, a background that is not plain white, glasses, hair or clothing covering part of the face, photos older than six months, and passport scans with glare, cut off edges, or unreadable text. Our tool fixes the technical issues (size, format, background), but you still need a clear, well lit, front facing photo to start with. See our Photo Tips guide.

Can I wear glasses or a head covering in my photo?

Head coverings worn for religious reasons (such as a hijab) are allowed, provided your full face is visible from the bottom of your chin to your forehead, with no hair or fabric covering any part of the face. Glasses are best avoided. Saudi guidance asks applicants to remove them because they can interfere with biometric verification, and glasses that obscure the eyes are a common rejection reason.

Do I need to upload my passport page for Umrah?

The passport biodata page upload is primarily required for Hajj applications on Nusuk. Umrah applications typically only require the personal photo, though you will still need a passport that is valid for at least six months from your travel date. Check your specific application flow on Nusuk, as requirements can vary by nationality and visa type.

What makes a good passport page photo?

Take a straight on photo of the main biodata page (the page with your photo and personal details) in good light. All text must be readable, especially your name, passport number, dates, and the machine readable zone (the two lines of characters at the bottom). Avoid glare from the laminate, don't cut off any edges, don't cover the page with your fingers, and keep the page flat. Our tool formats it to the required dimensions automatically.

My iPhone photo won't upload. What do I do?

iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default, which some browsers can't process. Our tool converts most HEIC photos automatically, but if yours fails: go to Settings > Camera > Formats and select "Most Compatible", then retake the photo. Alternatively, take a screenshot of your existing photo and upload the screenshot instead.

How does the white background feature work?

An AI model detects the person in your photo and replaces everything behind them with a clean white background, as required by Nusuk. This runs directly in your browser on your own device whenever possible, so your photo stays private. It works best when there is clear contrast between you and the background.

Does this work on mobile phones?

Yes. The tool is designed for phones first, since most pilgrims apply from their phones. You can take a photo with your camera or choose one from your gallery, crop and zoom it with your fingers, and save the result straight to your camera roll.
